SAT test FACTS
The SAT Test combines the critical reading and math score; when added together this score provides your total. Each section is worth 400 points, with all sections adding up to a perfect score of 1,600.
Most schools value performance based on the combined reading and math score that has a maximum total of 1600, so it is important to concentrate on preparing for those two sections. When students compare combined critical reading and math scores, they will discover that the writing section score can skew a overall total score. Universities sometimes will use the writing section on either test for course placement.
A student can receive the following SAT scores.
Total score (400 - 1600)
2 Section Scores (200 - 800)
3 Test Scores (10 - 40)
7 Sub-Scores (1 - 15)
2 Cross-Test Scores
Should you take a SAT Online, a classroom course or chose a one-on-one tutor? It can be costly in both time and money. However, practice sessions, taking sample tests, review of weaker areas of concern and tracking of your scores during a class or one-on-one tutoring is helpful.
You can get excellent results with a disciplined approach, a One-on-One tutor and a good SAT guide book. If you chose a One-on-One tutor, you should learn about SAT content areas, as well as, strategies for how to take the test. You will need to know content and methods or processes for math and reading problems. Feedback is essential to avoid making the same errors and to know why you may have missed an understanding of a subject area.
Choosing the right tutor can be difficult for a parent and their son or daughter. We wish to help you understand how Naperville Tutoring's SAT PREP tutoring compares to other test prep options you may be investigating.

New SAT vs. ACT | Which test should I take?
What are the differences between the tests?
Choosing the right test is an extremely important piece of the college admissions process. If you are still having trouble figuring out which test is best for you after reading the comparisons, you may wish to take both!
Consider your career goals. If math and science will be a large part of your university major, STEM classes matter. The ACT Test will best fit this requirement. If liberal arts is a strong requirement for your college degree, then the SAT may be your best fit.
Take free practice tests and figure out which test is going to get you the best results.
ACT or SAT: You Decide
The SAT test begins with a 50-minute essay. This is the start to the Writing section, which test-takers complete in addition to the Critical Reading and Math sections. The SAT Test allows 15 minutes more to complete than the ACT Test. (3 hours + 50 minutes including the essay).
Similar to the ACT, the SAT has multiple-choice areas, but it also has a part in the Math section where you are required to produce your answers — no chance of guessing from a set of choices here!
When considering which test to take, both tests allot ample time for completion, but the SAT has fewer questions — questions on the SAT compared to the 215 on the ACT Test.
The SAT focuses heavily on vocabulary, while the ACT hones in on grammar and punctuation.
You may not even need to think in terms of ACT vs. SAT. If the colleges you're interested in accept scores from either test, you may want to consider taking both tests. Each one tests you in a different way, so taking both will let you figure out which test will deliver your best score.
If you're short on time and money and wish to put your efforts towards test prep for only one of the tests, your best plan is to take a few practice exams. There are free and low-cost practice exams available electronically and in-print.
If you are starting early and considering the tests as a sophomore, you will have time to take the PLAN, which is similar to a practice ACT, or the PSAT, which is a practice SAT.
If you're still undecided about taking the ACT or SAT, you may feel more strongly about one or the other once you become even more familiar with the format of both. You can judge what your test performance will be before heading off for the real thing.
Our tutoring style begins with a diagnosis of students’ strengths and weaknesses. We personalize your SAT PREP experience as we journey through the SAT PREP book. At any level of performance, we emphasize the kinds of practice that will get our students to earn their best scores.
We know high test scores are your goal. It is our goal too!

The Official SAT Subject Tests in Mathematics Levels 1
& 2 Study Guide Std Edition
Every year nearly 300,000 high school students
take an SAT Subject Test in Mathematics Level 1
or Mathematics Level 2. Many selective colleges
recommend or require them for admission or
placement. The Official SAT Subject Tests Study
Guide: For Mathematics Level 1 and Level 2 is
the only source of official questions and answer
explanations for these exams, and it is the only guide
developed by the test maker. In addition to two
full-length, previously administered practice tests
for each exam level, this book also contains
complete solutions, answer explanations,
and test-taking strategies.
SAT Subject Tests
The SAT also provides you with the chance
to take Subject Tests. A few schools may
require you to take some of these tests as
additional requirements to your admission
application. It's possible you won't need to
take any, but you may want to consider it
if you have strengths in particular areas. All
of your scores from these additional tests will
be reported, whether they were required or not.
If you're concerned that your scores on the
required SAT sections may be less than stellar,
consider registering for — and getting test
prep in — additional Subject Tests in areas
that can demonstrate your skills in specific
subjects like English, history, mathematics,
science, and various languages.

One-on-One SAT PREP Tutoring | SAT Test Results | 2220 | 1560 on NEW SAT
I just wanted to get back to you to let you know how W. did on the June SAT.
His scores were: Critical Reading: 740, Math: 720, Writing: 760 Composite 2220.
W. told me he felt your preparation was good, to the point, and useful for the test. He was happy (tho never completely satisfied--you know how W is!) with his scores. I believe the scores are a little better than his ACT, so the SAT was worth doing. Thanks again for all your help, and we'll be happy to provide a positive reference if you have any future clients looking for SAT prep help. We'll let you know when W finally makes his college decision. W. told me your prep was better for his preferred style of learning/studying than your competitor's review course, so I'm so glad we found you!
We hope your summer is going well--before you know it, the fall review sessions will be revving up!
